Sustainability in Everything We Do

At The Professional Fundraiser, we believe that a successful business must also be an environmentally responsible one. Sustainability isn’t a side project for us, it’s embedded in everything we do.

We don’t simply “try” to be green. We hold ourselves to the Gold Standard.

Certified Commitment: ISO 14001

Our environmental management system is certified to ISO 14001, reflecting our structured and accountable approach to reducing our environmental impact. This certification highlights how we measure, manage, and continuously improve our sustainability practices.

Sustainability in Everything We Do

Sustainability is not a standalone initiative, it is fully integrated into our organisation, from board-level strategy to the smallest day-to-day decisions, even down to the coffee in our mugs.

We are committed to embedding environmental responsibility into every layer of our operations.

Net Zero by 2035

We have set a clear and ambitious goal: to achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035 or sooner.

This commitment drives decisive action across our business as we accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future.

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

We are actively working to reduce emissions through improvements in infrastructure, energy use, and travel.

Our key targets include:

  • A 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030
  • Ongoing investment in cleaner, more efficient systems and behaviours

Cleaner Energy and Transport

We are already making meaningful changes, including:

  • Green heating solutions, with a sustainable biomass boiler providing hot water and heating
  • A full electric and hybrid vehicle transition, aiming for a 100% low-emission company fleet by 2028

A Zero Waste Mindset

We follow the Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot hierarchy to minimise waste and resource consumption.

Our ambitions include:

  • Achieving zero waste to landfill by 2027
  • Reducing unnecessary consumption at every opportunity

We also invest in practical measures such as motion sensors in kitchens and bathrooms to ensure energy is only used when needed.

Our recycling programmes cover paper, plastics, and electronic waste, ensuring materials are managed responsibly.

Ethical Procurement with Global Impact

Every purchase we make is guided by our environmental and ethical standards. We aim for 100% of procurement to meet high sustainability criteria, supporting responsible suppliers and products.

Some of our key choices include:

  • Bio-D cleaning products (dish soap, dishwasher tablets, hand soap, toilet cleaner)
  • The Cheeky Panda paper products (kitchen roll, hand towels)
  • Who Gives A Crap toilet paper
  • Soil Association-certified organic milk and fruit
  • Fairtrade coffee, tea, sugar, and cereal bars
  • Bite Around The World for fresh, vegetarian, sustainable lunches
  • Coffee sourced from Change Please Coffee

These choices ensure that sustainability is considered in every aspect of our supply chain.

A Conscious Culture: The Power of Us

Our sustainability strategy only works because of our people. We believe in collective responsibility and everyday action.

This culture is supported by:

  • Mandatory environmental training for all new starters during induction
  • A Power Down initiative, encouraging staff to switch off unused lights and electronics
  • Climate-conscious habits, such as keeping doors closed to regulate heating and cooling
  • Commuter Heroes programme, promoting car-sharing to reduce travel emissions
  • Community volunteering, supporting environmental projects through our volunteering policy

These daily wins build momentum and create shared accountability across the organisation.

Accountability and Continuous Improvement

We continually review our performance against targets, ensuring we learn, adapt, and improve year on year. Our approach is not static, it evolves as we strive for better outcomes.

Looking Ahead

Sustainability is not a destination; it is an ongoing journey. At The Professional Fundraiser, we are committed to leading by example, reducing our impact, improving our systems, and building a culture where environmental responsibility is second nature.

Together, we are working towards a more sustainable future, one decision, one action, and one improvement at a time.
